Dental Implants

See our current promotion on DENTAL IMPLANTS

What are they?

A dental implant can be used to replace a single tooth or multiple missing teeth. They are small titanium post which acts like the root of a tooth to support a prosthetic crown.

It is necessary to check your medical history, study models of your mouth and bite, specialised X-rays which may include a 3D scan to determine whether implants are suitable for you. Planning with the help of computer imaging ensures that dental implants can be placed in exactly the right position in the bone.

Why choose us?

We pride ourselves in offering the latest advances and technologies in the field of dental implants. We can do either guided, non guided, flap or flapless surgery and tailor a plan to suit your needs. We use the latest research and developments to deliver quality predictable results. What stands us apart is our use of your own blood products which we centrifuge to obtain concentrated growth factors (CGF). The CGF increases the healing and predictability of the procedure as the product is involved in all the stages of wound healing. This added with our bone grafting materials, placed with your implant or into a socket after an extraction will increase healing time and also make the procedure more effective and predictable. We have been using such technologies for years and continue to stay up to date with the advances in this technology of natural bone regeneration. We also use CAD-CAM technology to scan your placed implant and can design and mill your crown on site and issue on the same day. This avoids messy impressions and delay in getting the implant. Also you can rest assure its Australian made.

What is Flapless surgery in Dental implants?

Flapless surgery is a technique of performing implant surgery that minimises bleeding and swelling by applying a cutting edge tissue punch technique without raising a flap and avoid the need for sutures in most cases. This technique involves a lot of planning prior to the surgery involving manipulation of digital information to design a surgical guide that can accurately predict the best possible position for implant fixture.

What happens if you don’t replace a missing tooth?

Dental ImplantsWhen a tooth is lost, the lack of stimulation to the jaw will cause bone loss both in width and height. In addition the adjacent teeth can tip into the space and the opposing teeth can over erupt into the space.

As more teeth are lost, there will be more problems with aesthetics, function and the balance of your bite and TMJ.

How can bone be preserved or re-grown to support dental implants?

Bone grafting into the extraction sockets at the time of tooth loss can preserve bone volume needed for implant placement. Alternatively bone grafting can also be added at the time of implant placement to help integrate the implant into the jaw bone over the next 3-6 months. We can do this treatment using your own blood which we centrifuge to extract the growth factors to allow better and more predictable healing.

How are implants place?

Implant placements consist of a series of appointments over an approximate 6-9 month period.

  1. Dr Linda places the implant into the jaw then inserts a screw to prevent debris from entering. She will also use the CGF as part of the procedure to increase the healing time and effectiveness. It will take 3 to 6 months for the implant to fuse with the jawbone, during which time the gum is secured over the implant.
  2. Upon returning to us, the implant is uncovered and an extension called an abutment is attached. Once the gum tissue has healed around the abutment, the implant and abutment act as the foundation for the new crown on top.
  3. Finally, Dr Linda will make a crown that best suits your natural teeth, considering factors including size, shape and colour. Once completed, the crown is attached to the implant abutment and you can enjoy your beautiful new smile!

How long does a Dental Implant Procedure take?

The procedure of inserting a single dental implant takes approximately 1-2 hours.

What is the recovery time for dental implants?

The recovery time for dental implants is dependent on the patient, and it differs from one individual to another. Depending on your overall health, the downtime could be a couple of days or a couple of weeks. On average, it takes just a day or two to feel back to normal.

Are Dental implants safe?

Dental implants are made of highly bio compatible titanium that have proven to be a safe and effective solution for replacing teeth for over 30 years. Made from materials that work well with the human body, dental implants serve as a strong and safe foundation for replacement of teeth.

Are there any Risks, side effects or pain involved?

Any risks and side effects are rare and easily treated. These can include:

  • Infection
  • Injury or damage to other teeth or blood vessels
  • Nerve damage
  • Sinus problems if upper-jaw implants protrude into sinus cavities.

Although uncommon and usually minor, it is important to contact us if you experience any of these side effects.

Once healed, dental implants should be painless and comfortable. Immediately after surgery, however, discomfort and mild pain is expected to last up to a week. Dr Linda may prescribe you something for the pain and to avoid infection; otherwise, over-the-counter painkillers can help to manage the pain.

Caring for Dental Implants

Different dental implants may require different care. Dr Linda will ensure you are equipped with the correct products, such as special brushes, to care for your implants.

Maintaining good oral hygiene is vital for preventing infection around your dental implant. With thorough cleaning and frequent visits to your dentist for professional cleaning and maintenance, your dental implants will be well looked after, allowing you to enjoy them for many years to come.
