What are clear braces?
Clear braces include the use of virtually an invisible braces systems. Invisalign and Smile Tru utilises a series of clear removable aligners to gently reposition teeth. These aligners can be useful for cases where only simple tooth movement is required, often providing a quick solution for cosmetically oriented problems. We suggest using fixed braces for slightly more complicated cases of tooth alignment as they offer a high degree of precision. Dr Linda sometimes recommends clear braces for children, but most often for adults.

Clear braces is the simple alternative to metal braces. They can be suitable for both teens and adults. They are custom-made clear removable aligners that gradually straighten your teeth as you wear them. We use our special digital camera to take records of the teeth and jaw in order to design the aligners. So that eliminates the need for impressions. Its simple and easy.

Clear braces can also be used if you only want to straighten just the top or the bottom jaw. This is case dependent and Dr Linda will advise if its suitable after an initial consultation.

The benefits of Invisalign are:

  • It is comfortable
  • It is affordable
  • It is virtually invisible
  • It is safe
  • It is removable for eating and drinking There are no dietary restrictions
  • And it will have a minimal impact on your daily routine
  • Digital scanning of your teeth meaning no impressions required to get started

How does Invisalign work?

The aligners in the Invisalign apply consistent, controlled force to individual teeth, gently moving them into their new desired position. Invisalign differs from traditional braces in that it actually controls the amount of force applied to each tooth and this reduces the length of the treatment in comparison with traditional orthodontics

During your initial consultation, Dr Linda will explore your goals and needs to determine if Invisalign is the appropriate treatment for you. Should this be the case, Dr Linda will then take detailed impressions of your teeth and create a computerised 3D image of your smile. This will help him determine the precise movements needed to create the best results.

Your custom-made invisible braces will then be made according to your individual treatment plan. The number of aligners you will need depends on your needs and goals, however a full invisalign treatment typically involves the use of 18 to 36 aligners.

Living with Invisalign

During your treatment, you will wear each aligner for around two weeks, day and night, with small breaks for eating, brushing and flossing your teeth, and the occasional time off for special events. After two weeks, you will then switch to the next aligner which, will move your teeth a little more.

We will ask you to come in for a check-up every 4-6 weeks so that we can monitor your progress and provide you with your next set of aligners. Throughout your treatment, you should notice small movements as the invisible braces gradually move your teeth to create an even, healthy and very attractive smile.

Wearing the invisalign aligners is generally far more comfortable than wearing traditional braces. Minor discomfort may be experienced initially and for a few days every time a new aligner is used. This slight feeling of pressure is a sign aligners are doing their job and moving the teeth into the desired position. Any discomfort is usually relieved in a few days.

Orthodontic Treatment

While initially designed to treat misaligned teeth in pre-teens and teens, today Orthodontics covers the detection and treatment of teeth and jaw misalignments and irregularities in grown-ups as well.

That’s why today many adults are choosing to undergo orthodontics – to help them achieve that beautiful straight smile they have always wanted but never had an opportunity to correct in their young years.

Using specialised custom appliances during the growth spurt of a child, a narrow or tapered arch of a child can be widened and the jaw brought forward. If the problem is treated early enough, orofacial orthopaedics can minimise or eliminate the need for secured braces in the future.

These type of appliances can also be used in adults to align the teeth in a more favourable position as a prelude to braces which, are later used to correct rotation, crowding and gaps amongst teeth.

Whether for your child or for you, there are many options available to help you correct dental imperfections. Find out which one of them best suits your needs by discussing your circumstances with Dr Linda.
